We’re thrilled to announce that O’Neil + Architecture had an amazing time at the recent 2024 ADNZ Awards Gala and Annual Conference in Rotorua – and we didn’t leave empty-handed! We were absolutely humbled (and honestly, over the moon) to receive the National Award for New Home over 300m² for our project, Off-Grid House, in North Canterbury.
The Off-Grid House, designed by Darren and our talented team, received high praise from the ADNZ judges for its unique blend of style, functionality, and sustainability. The ADNZ judges praised the home as a "compelling example of how thoughtful design can harmonise functionality, sustainability, and visual intrigue to create a truly exceptional living space."
They particularly loved the journey through the house, starting with the “jaw-dropping entry experience through a simple arch” and moving into “rich, colourful, and meticulously detailed spaces.” The sleek, minimalist look is all about simplicity – but behind the scenes, there’s a sophisticated design approach that champions both elegance and sustainability. The judges also noted the careful material choices and environmental responsibility built into the project, proving you don’t have to sacrifice style to make a positive impact.
We’re incredibly grateful to ADNZ for the recognition and to everyone who was part of bringing this vision to life. A massive thank you to our incredible clients, Falloon Builders, Lume Design, Henry Blakley Landscapes, and the wider O’Neil + team. We’re so grateful to have worked alongside such a talented group. It was a fantastic evening celebrating New Zealand’s design talent, and we’re honoured to have our Off-Grid House among the winners.
